CCA, (B)log on ideas

Blogged in Events Thursday September 25, 2008, 4:39 pm, Permalink,

I’ve been invited by the Canadian Center for Architecture to animate a session on social media on the occasion of the opening of the Shaughnessy House’s hang out area at the CCA. I’ll be animating this sessions with Fady Atallah from Bluesponge.

(B)log on to ideas

As part of the Journée de la Culture, the museum is putting this event together as a way to announce that it’s now open for anyone to use their physical and virtual (through wifi) space for work, socializing etc. and for free. The actual event is called “Blogue en Perspectives | (B)log On to Some Ideas” also part of the latest show “Some ideas on Living in Tokyo and London.”

We’ve invited a few guests to join us for the discussion. Please join us as well, and bring your laptops if you can.
We’ll be chatting with:

Véronique Boisjoly aka Vero B, Michel Hellman, Illustrator who’s been putting his life in panels for a few years now, Steven Mansour and Evan Prodromou and Christine Préfontaine.

Wildernets out

Blogged in collaborations, build this Thursday September 25, 2008, 4:18 pm, Permalink,

The first wildernet was out and about NYC and Brooklyn recently. Created in collaboration with Sonali Sridhar and Doris Cocailo.

Wildernet

A bit more about these nets:

Wildernets are portable mesh structures that create experiences of wilderness in public spaces.

A new twist on the trend of rediscovering nature, Wildernets, large scale crochet nets with embedded electronics, can be deployed in various settings, bringing the experiences of the forest, trees, birds and night skies to any environment. Wildernets transform the physical configuration and social dimensions of an urban space by overlaying a synthesized “natural” environment.

Wildernets recall a natural space not available to the city dweller, alluding to a rural experience in any setting; interrupting the architecture and the pedestrian to create an improvised experience in collective action, social intervention and DIY technology.

Picture by Doris. Thanks to Julie Legault for her help on the project.

Putting together temporary installations for Conflux this year in collaboration with Doris Cocailo and Sonali Sridhar. Come see you around NYC’s Washington Square Park on the 12th, 13th and 14th of September from 4pm to 8pm.

These installs are of our first wildernet: a portable 150 square feet of night sky and nature sounds that’s currently being crocheyed.

Working with WORK AC on MoMA/PS1 summer install

Blogged in projects, collaborations, sustainability, build this Tuesday April 29, 2008, 2:06 pm, Permalink,

Working on a few thematic stations and a large scale solar generator for the Public Farm 1 project by Work AC.

“Public Farm 1 is a project designed by WORK Architecture Company for MoMA and P.S.1’s Young Architects Program. Public Farm 1 will be on view in P.S.1’s outdoor courtyard beginning June 20, 2008 for the 2008 WARM UP music series. Public Farm 1 will function as an urban farm while providing an outdoor social space for the summer.

Constructed from large inexpensive cardboard tubes, the Farm will be a folded plane plane that creates multiple zones of activity and diverse experiences. The tubes will be filled with vegetables and supply the on-site farmers market.”
